Our commitment: EV Charge Buddy is designed to help you find EV chargers without compromising your privacy. We do not require user accounts, and do not sell your personal information.

Information We Collect

Location Data: If you click the locate button on the map, we request your browser's geolocation to center the map on your current position. This is entirely optional and only happens when you explicitly request it. Location data is processed in your browser and is not sent to or stored on our servers.

Search Queries: When you search for an address or location, your query is sent to the OneMap search API to retrieve coordinates. These queries are not stored or linked to your identity by us.

Browser Storage: We use your browser's localStorage to store a single cache timestamp, and IndexedDB to store a local copy of charger data to improve load times and reduce data usage. No personal information is stored.

Server Logs: Our backend server may log standard HTTP request information (IP address, user agent, requested URL, timestamp) for operational and security purposes. These logs are automatically rotated and not used to personally identify you.

Advertising: The website displays ads via Google AdSense. Google may use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads. You can opt out of personalized advertising through Google's Ads Settings.

How We Use Your Data

  • Core Functionality: Location data powers the map centering feature. Search queries power the address lookup.
  • Caching: Browser storage allows the site to display charger data even when you are offline or our server is temporarily unavailable.
  • Advertising: Google AdSense delivers ads to support the free service.
  • Legal Compliance: Server logs may be used only when required by law or to prevent abuse.

Data Storage & Security

We do not maintain user accounts or databases of personal information. The only data stored is in your own browser: a cache timestamp in localStorage and charger data in IndexedDB.

All communication between your browser and our servers uses HTTPS encryption.

Third-Party Services

  • Map Services: Leaflet (open-source JavaScript library) renders the map. OneMap / Singapore Land Authority provides map tiles. See OneMap for their privacy practices.
  • Address Search: OneMap's elastic search API powers the address and postal code search.
  • Charger Data: We aggregate data from the Land Transport Authority (LTA) DataMall and charging operators.
  • Advertising: Google AdSense serves advertisements.
  • Navigation Links: Directions to chargers open in Google Maps, which is subject to Google's privacy policy.

Your Rights & Controls

  • Location Access: You can deny or revoke geolocation permission in your browser settings at any time. The website works fully with manual search.
  • Ad Personalization: Opt out of personalized ads via Google Ads Settings.
  • Clear Stored Data: You can clear localStorage and IndexedDB data through your browser's settings (usually under Privacy → Clear browsing data).
  • Transparency: Because we do not maintain user accounts, there is no personal data to request. Contact us if you have any questions.
